Last night, I had the pleasure of attending my first local metal show on the western slope of Colorado. I was stoked to see the streets have no parking left as I arrived into town a couple minutes after showtime. Sure enough, the venue was packed out! I walked in on Sole Aggression getting the party started.

These guys have been rocking out since the late 80s/early 90s and the experience was on display. Tons of energy and surprisingly heavy! The vocalist has a killer scream that I wish he would use more of. Well constructed songs and lots of variety that kept me engaged.

Next was Sworn Us Under. These guys reminded me of Black Sabbath with classic and dark sounding riffs and passionate belted lyrics. Their stage presence was excellent and they brought a lot of fans. These guys (and gal) got the crowd from banging their heads to throwing down in the pit. My back still hurts from the elbows.

Awaiting Eternity Live @ Mesa Theater
There’s no doubt that this night was all about Awaiting Eternity. The excitement, the energy…all of it built up to the moment the lights went out at the end of the final intermission and “Awaiting Eternity” was projected onto the screen, which lifted to reveal the band as their orchestral intro was interrupted by shred.
The band’s set was a healthy length, especially for a local show. The performance was well produced, sounded great, and included a ton of crowd interaction. From the incredible talent and skill, to the excellent songwriting, to the crowd engagement, everything about Awaiting Eternity was professional. I can’t wait to see their crowds grow even larger!

Overall, it was another great evening at Mesa Theater. I’ll see you at the Fleshgod Apocalypse w/Obscura show in a couple weeks!
